I was at the stadium when Mexico won the football finals at the Olympics but the real magic of the day were the fans themselves. From the moment we arrived, the crowd was at full force dancing the samba to the beat of the drums or the mariachi band trying to outplay them. The energy was electric and words can not fully justify the atmosphere that was present in the stadium that day. Both countries had their flags, face paint, and what not out in support and the cheers (aka screams) were deafening. As I sat amongst all of them in the stands, I wasn’t sure if I should be watching the game or the shenanigans happening all around me. All I can say is that the experience was worth the rather steep price of an Olympic ticket and even though I wasn’t as invested as the others around me in a certain country winning, it was great to see Mexico walk away with the gold as they were final able to capture their first gold of the games.
