The Magic of Rain

Turns out there’s a reason why New Zealand is so lush and beautiful.  RAIN.  This weekend there’s been a heavy downpour of non stop rain in Auckland.  In most cities, I find that a hard rainfall always lifts the humidity and leaves the air smelling clean and crisp but not here.  Here everything is wet but the air remains unchanged which is very strange to me.

Despite the fact that the heavy rainfall in Auckland lacks a renewing effect – I still think that there was something magical about it.  Being the true Vancouverite I am – I can appreciate a decent rainfall even with the irritations it adds to life.  Between us, there’s something about a good rainfall that makes me happy.  I don’t know if it’s because it brings out my child-like qualities where I think its okay to run around in my wellies jumping in puddles and dancing about like a five-year old or if it’s because I’m able to get a good night’s sleep as soon as the rain starts softly tapping against the window of my bedroom or if it’s because it makes me slow down my energizer bunny pace of life.  Whatever it is, I’m glad that the rains came this weekend and gave me a chance to relax, take in all in, and smile as life is good.
